MedTech Association is pleased to present its second annual issue of “Bio/Med Breakthroughs,” the leading publication on the bioscience and medical technology (Bio/Med) industry in New York State (NYS). This year’s publication provides a foundational assessment of market forces in relation to healthcare reform, while highlighting how our member companies are successfully responding to the changing landscape.

We are excited to highlight the growth of the state’s Bio/Med industry as a whole in this year’s publication. Since 2012, MedTech’s mission has been formalized state wide, and with our partners downstate – Ernst & Young, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation, representing NY BioHud Valley – we are making great strides to do so. As you will read, the downstate region has incredible resources available to our industry.

Success stories are by no means limited to downstate NY, however. This year alone, I have traveled thousands of miles, meeting with numerous companies and hundreds of individuals to hear the challenges they have overcome and the opportunities in their future.

In Western NY we are seeing unprecedented expansion of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, including new construction of the University at Buffalo’s School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, the Conventus Building – with anchor tenant AMRI – and the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital. Other industry leaders such as ZeptoMetrix, Baxter and Greatbatch continue to grow their innovative solutions and support our upstate communities.

In our state’s capital, AngioDynamics, a leading provider of innovative, minimally invasive medical devices for vascular access, surgery, peripheral vascular disease and oncology, announced in August 2015 their first patient enrolled in the Registry of AngioVac Procedures in Detail (RAPID) Database, designed to evaluate the patterns of use as well as safety and effectiveness data. This self-prescribed research will help to improve clinical data, outcomes and provide a valuable resource to the Bio/Med community. GE Idea Works, also located in the capital region, connects, collaborates and grows companies by working with some of the most exciting industry partners today. Their prevue extends downstate where their investment arm, GE Ventures, has committed to provide assistance in funding breakthrough solutions for the industry.

And in between – from Rochester to Syracuse, Utica to Oswego – I hear new success stories every day from our member companies.

New York State sits on the cusp of developing a robust ecosystem on par with some of the country’s hottest Bio/Med locales. We at MedTech work to connect the state’s Bio/Med industry and bolster the energy and innovation they bring to the world every single day.

On the front lines of industry support and development, connect with MedTech to help you grow your business and gain access to the state’s leading Bio/Med companies, academic partners and business services.
